About Us

One Small Step was formed in 2001 to provide socks to agencies that served the poor. More than 160,000 pairs of socks and large quantities of clothing were distributed by a small cadre of friends over eight years. In 2008, after the clothing bank in Chandler closed, the women of One Small Step located space to operate a small emergency clothing bank for Chandler residents. Within eight months, the volume of clients required a move into commercial space. The number of clients increased steadily, forcing another move into larger facilities in 2010. Now, thousands of individuals in the East Valley of Phoenix are served annually.

Clothes Cabin has adapted to the needs of its clients over the years, adding a subset of services that are in line with its mission. The Back to Work program provides clients with a new pair of steel toed work boots, one time, in order to help get them back to work. Additionally, Clothes Cabin provides laundry, storage, and mailbox services for its homeless clients. The desire to provide these simple services for the homeless came from conversations with Clothes Cabin’s clients about what they really need. When the need arises, the service desired isn’t being done by another agency, and it aligns with the mission, Clothes Cabin strives to give its clients the help they really need.

In 2015, Clothes Cabin closed out its 7th year of providing clothing to families in need. We served over 1800 families with clothing, washed more than 200 loads of laundry for the homeless, and gave away nearly 62,000 pieces of clothing to people in the community who need it the most. All of this is done almost completely on volunteer labor; Clothes Cabin’s volunteers gave over 11,000 hours of their time last year.

Clothes Cabin operates on the generosity of our donors. We accept clothing donations Monday through Thursday from 10am to 2pm or by appointment. Clothes Cabin is a Qualifying Charitable Organization for the Arizona Tax Credit. Your financial gift of up to $800 is eligible for a dollar-for-dollar tax credit.
